“Nice and warm, a quiet storm, quiet as when flowers talk at break of dawn.”                            Quiet Storm Lyrics by Smokey Robinson

Smokey Robinson said after a powerful storm, it was the feeling in the air that inspired the tune that would go on to resurrect his R&B career.  The song Quiet Storm proved to be much more than a sexy slow groove.  What Robinson felt in that after-storm air we now hear on the airwaves in cities around the world.  It’s the sound of love pinned to slow tempo music that we call slow jams.  Melvin Lindsey is the father of the format dedicated to this sound and the creator of the first Quiet Storm radio show.  This is the second mix that I’ve complied in honor of his work.  In this mix you’ll hear some Quiet Storm classics and Lindsey favorites from Labelle to Sylvester.

Melvin’s Quiet Storm of Melodies continues to be the most popular mix downloaded here at DJ BeTray.com.  I’m so happy that so many Quiet Storm fans have found their way to my site.  Now I’m hoping that you’ll be just as happy with the 2nd volume showcasing the unique blend of slow jams Lindsey created and perfected.  Close your eyes and imagine the sounds of 96.3 WHUR pouring out of the radio and flowing through the DC night air in the 80’s.  Hear the sweet and comforting voice of Lindsey making it all alright with the promise of playing another slow jam you’ll love.  Enjoy & Love!

Clubbin’ in the 80’s

As I’ve said before, I’m a 70’s baby and I love 80’s music.  This mix features my favorite era in R&B.  While I was a 10 year old eating my Mr. T cereal and watching Miami Vice on Friday nights; my 20 year old Sister was hitting DC clubs and dancing to some of the songs featured on this mix.  While I was never old enough to club in the 80’s myself, I lived vicariously through my big Sister.  She’d show me the latest dances and I’d watch and think, “I just can’t wait to be grown.”  I knew what music was hot by the albums and cassettes my sister would buy.    Those albums are now a major part of my record collection today and those memories are the inspiration behind Clubbin’ in the 80’s.

This mix is my thank you to all of you in the DJ BeTray family.  Thank you for your support as we approach my 1 year anniversary of DJ BeTray.com.  Please enjoy this mix and bump it at your next party! Love!

Sounds Like Washington Vol. 2

I’m so excited to present Sounds Like Washington Vol. 2 to you.  Ten years ago I compiled the first Sounds Like Washington to keep me company when I lived far away from D.C. and missed listening to the exclusive sounds of this City.  After returning home, I was inspired to create Volume 2.  Like with Volume 1, some of these songs are regularly played on D.C.’s adult contemporary radio stations, others should be.  Please enjoy these soothing sounds that go best with the Washington skyline in the distance — but will make you feel good wherever you are.
